Riporto dalla VASSAL mailing list

This is only an 'advance notice', not even an 'advance
warning'. :)
The company that I work for is struggling financially.
I do not have insight into the exact particulars. I
do not see Horizon Broadband 'going away' tomorrow or
even next week, but I guess it is possible. (Horizon
is a wireless ISP that isn't quite out of the red,
monthly, and the parent company has endured several of
its account receivables disappearing via bankruptcies.
Right now, both companies are a little worried...)
If Horizon 'goes under', not only will I lose my job,
the VASSAL server will lose it's present IP
connectivity. The VASSAL server computer hardware is
owned by me, but the bandwidth/IPs are owned/leased by
Horizon Broadband.
I tell you this only to caution you to do a few
things, just in case:
1) have a full software backup of whatever you need
to host VASSAL somewhere else
2) maybe try to find a 'backup' hardware solution
I have the ability to host my server at home, but in
the event of no income, I probably won't be able to
afford the static IP address that would be necessary.
Among other things.
I do not see any disasters coming but we never really
know the future, either. We seem to be 'making' it.
People have been laid off and my paycheck hasn't
shrunk...
So ... just a heads-up, bro. I appreciate your
support of a great (non-violent, non-sexed,
family-friendly) hobby. I haven't played ASL in
several months, but the server seems to be doing
better than last time we emailed.
